# What firsthand evidence can strengthen your content?

> Gather firsthand evidence, such as process details, real examples, and approved work, that makes website content more specific without inventing proof.

Use material your team actually knows, has created, or can verify. Firsthand evidence does not require an impressive statistic.

## Start with work you can explain.

That may include a documented workflow, a real interface decision, a common customer question, a before-and-after process description, or an approved project example.

Ask the person who delivers the service to walk through a recent task without revealing private customer details. What input did they need? Which options did they consider? What constraint changed the decision? What did they hand over? Those answers often make better content than a list of generic benefits.

For example, a guide about appointment booking can explain why a team mapped staff availability, cancellation rules, confirmations, and fallback contact paths before choosing a tool. That is a useful method. It does not claim that a particular client gained more bookings unless the result is documented and approved.

## Separate observation from outcome.

A screenshot can prove that a screen existed. It cannot by itself prove that conversion improved. A project timeline can show what was delivered. It cannot establish revenue impact without reliable measurement and permission. Label the evidence according to what it supports.

Create a small evidence record for each claim: source, date, owner, context, permission, and the exact statement it can support. If the team cannot fill those fields, use the material as internal learning, not public proof.

## Ask for permission before naming anyone.

Customer names, logos, quotes, dashboards, and results belong behind a clear approval step. A client may approve displaying a finished website but not their internal metrics or decision process. Even an anonymized story can reveal identity through location, industry, or distinctive details. Review that risk before publication.

Google’s [people-first content guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/creating-helpful-content) asks whether material demonstrates firsthand expertise and original analysis. That is a reason to collect real process knowledge carefully, not to manufacture a success story.

## Turn the evidence into an answer.

Evidence should clarify a question, not interrupt it. If the reader asks how a redesign protects existing content, a short example of URL inventory and migration decisions is relevant. An unrelated client logo is not. Place the example beside the point it proves. Explain what the reader can learn from it and where the example may not generalize.

Keep the explanation plain. Show what the team did and why. Avoid calling ordinary work “proprietary” if the value lies in accountable execution.

## Illustrate a method without implying client proof.

A process example can be useful even when a client cannot be named. Describe the decision pattern in general terms and label it as an illustration, not a case study. For instance, explain that a team may compare two booking flows by mapping appointment type, availability, confirmations, and staff handoff. Do not add a city, industry, or result that would make readers think it describes a verified engagement. The point is to show how a decision gets made, not to imply that unnamed success already occurred.

## Interview the person who delivers the service.

Choose one service page that feels generic. Interview the person responsible for delivery and capture three concrete decisions they make. Verify what can be shared. Add one approved example to the page and keep the rest in the evidence library.
